Children, families, mental health and museums
Thursday 3 December, 10am - 12.30pm
What role can museums play in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children and families?
About this training
The Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition’s recent review of NHS mental health statistics shows that the proportion of 8-25s experiencing mental health problems is increasing. 1 in 3 children have a parent with poor mental health, which equates to 4 million children. In this session we will explore how museums can support children and families' mental health and wellbeing through activities and programmes that encourage creativity, connection and conversation.
We will also hear case studies from Colchester + Ipswich Museums and the South London Gallery about their partnerships to deliver provision in this area.
The session will help you to:
understand the importance of this work,
think about the impact this work can have on staff wellbeing,
learn how to create effective self-guided wellbeing activities for families,
gain ideas about how to work in partnership with local organisations to deliver this provision to a wider range of families,
gain inspiration from case studies to take your own work forward.
See full schedule below.
